GENERAL
INFORMATION: On page 123 of the "Concepts" manual that shipped with
NetWare 386 v3.0, the second paragraph refers to a "time
limit" that can be set by the system manager. This time
limit is supposed to be how long a server will allow a
workstation to sit idle on a network before it clears it's
connection. In past versions of NetWare, the watchdog (this
is what this service of the file server checking a
workstation's connection for activity is called) has been
hard coded.
As you can see from the manual, the ability to set a
variable watch dog was to be included with 386. However,
because of time restraints, this feature was omitted from
v3.0 and will subsequently be omitted from v3.1 for the
same reason. It was an oversight on Novell's behalf that
the information was not removed from documentation.
